Unfortunately, as time goes on it gets harder and harder to keep our faces looking young and wrinkle-free. If you’ve been thinking about a face lift, but perhaps don’t want anything quite that invasive, there are other steps you can take. PDO threads are long threads placed under the skin using needles to draw them along. They gently pull the skin up, causing a younger look with just 2-3 days of down time. In rare cases, there may be bruising or bunching, but these side effects are happening less and less as technology advances.

There is a cost to this. PDO threads are not as dramatic as a traditional face lift, and it won’t last as long. This is by design. The suturing thread is dissolvable, to reduce the risk of infection. If the threads were made permanent, it could give bacteria a permanent place to hide within the body, leading to terrible infections. Dissolvable threads are much safer, and can still last a reasonable amount of time—about 6 months.

While you don’t get the longevity of a surgical facelift, you also don’t get many of the drawbacks associated with surgery either. The recovery time is much shorter, and they are much more cost-effective as well. A PDO thread treatment might run as low as $1,400, whereas a surgical facelift may cost as much as $10,000.
